Emergency Grant Aid to the People’s Republic of China for the Mudslide Disaster in Gansu Province

Since the late night of Saturday, August 7, tremendous damages have been caused by the mudslide disaster in Gansu Province, China. In addition, it is confirmed that the flood and sediment disasters which have intermittently struck Central and Southern China since May 2010 have caused damages across the country.

Given these circumstances, following a request for assistance from the People’s Republic of China on Friday, August 13, the Government of Japan decided to extend emergency grant aid from a humanitarian viewpoint and in light of the friendly relationship between Japan and China on Saturday, August 14. This emergency grant aid will be worth up to 100 million JPY, and will be used for providing assistance including food and basic necessities.
