Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Referendum on the Adoption of the Revised Constitution in the Republic of Kenya
August 6, 2010
- A referendum on the adoption of a revised constitution has recently been conducted peacefully in the Republic of Kenya. Japan regards this achievement as conducive to strengthening the democracy in Kenya, and pays its respect to the people of Kenya, who are bringing about one of the most important reforms in the country in recent years.
- Japan expects the people of Kenya to advance efforts for infrastructure building in line with the new constitution going forward, and hopes that Kenya will continue contributing to peace building in neighboring countries and to regional stability, as a political stabilizer in the East African region. Japan will continue supporting Kenya’s efforts aimed at its development and poverty reduction.
