Flood Disaster in Afghanistan (Message of Sympathy from Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada as well as Japanese Aid to be Delivered through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC))

  1. A flood disaster which occurred in the eastern part of Afghanistan since the end of July has led to 64 deaths and 61 injured in addition to the destruction of 5,000 houses.

  2. In light of this, on August 4, Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Katsuya Okada sent the following message of sympathy to Dr. Zalmai Rassoul, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan.

  3. As support for the affected, relief supplies (tents, kitchen utensils, water tanks, blankets, etc.) have been distributed to affected households in disaster-affected regions through the financing for flood countermeasures in Afghanistan which Japan has provided to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
