Statement by Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the establishment by the Secretary-General of the United Nations of a Panel of Inquiry on the flotilla incident of 31 May 2010

- The Government of Japan welcomes the establishment of a Panel of Inquiry on the flotilla incident of 31 May, which has been realized through the intensive consultations of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon. Japan has supported the efforts of the Secretary-General to establish the Panel, from the view that a prompt, impartial, credible and transparent investigation should be conducted.
- Japan expects that Israel and Turkey will extend cooperation to the Panel with a view to enabling it to fulfill its role effectively.
