Statement by Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the decision of Israel regarding the easing of the blockade on the Gaza Strip

  1. The Government of Japan welcomes the Israeli Government’s decision to allow civilian goods to enter the Gaza Strip as a measure in the right direction and will pay close attention to how this decision will be implemented in detail.

  2. Japan has repeatedly urged Israel to allow the inflow of goods and materials in the context of Japan’s assistance for the Gaza Strip.  Japan sincerely hopes that Israel’s decision will be implemented promptly and the implementation of the Japanese projects will be resumed.

  3. Japan stresses, in light of the social and living conditions in the Gaza Strip, that it is important that the blockade will be further eased while the prevention of the inflow of weapons into the Gaza Strip will be ensured. Japan will cooperate with Israel and the international community on this issue.
