- Mr. Katsuya Okada, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a telephone conversation with Mr. Yu Myung-Hwan, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Korea (ROK), for about 10 minutes from 2 p.m. on June 7 (Mon). The telephone conversation was conducted at the request of the ROK.
- Following the ROK's submission of a letter to the United Nations Security Council in connection with the sinking of the ROK navy patrol vessel, the ROK side explained the ROK's position behind the action. Minister Okada said to the effect that the new Cabinet of Japan to be sworn in soon will continue to support the ROK on the issue. The two Ministers confirmed that close coordination will be maintained between Japan and the ROK and among Japan, the ROK and the United States regarding their responses to take, including a response at the Security Council.
