Statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Certification of the Results of the Iraqi Election

Japan welcomes that the results of the election of the Council of Representatives of Iraq held on March 7 have become finalized, by the decision of the Iraqi Higher Court on June 1 certifying the results.
Japan regards the election as an extremely significant progress in the Iraqi political process. Japan reiterates its respect for the efforts of the Iraqi government and the Independent High Electoral Commission to carry out the election and of Iraqi people to cast a vote.
In the light of the election results, Japan expects that Iraqi people maintain mutual respect for different ethnic and religious groups and accelerate their efforts to form a new and stable government. Japan will continue its proactive support toward such efforts of the people of Iraq.
