Emergency Assistance in Response to the Tropical Storm Disaster in the Central America

- On June 1 (Tue), the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency relief goods (tents and blankets) equivalent to approximately 20 million yen and 10 million yen to the Republic of Guatemala and the Republic of Honduras, respectively, , which have suffered from the damages caused by the torrential rain of the tropical storm Agatha.
- The tropical storm left Guatemala and Honduras with no less than 100 dead andmore than 50 missing, in addition to a large number of evacuated people which exceeds 150,000.
Infrastructure including bridges and roads have been impaired, and further damage is expected due to the risk of landslides and other possibilities.
- At the requests of the Governments of Guatemala and Honduras, Japan has decided to extend this emergency assistance from a humanitarian viewpoint and in the light of friendly bilateral relations between Japan and Guatemala and Honduras.
