 Ms. Chinami Nishimura, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, who is currently visiting the Kingdom of Bhutan, paid a courtesy call on His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, King of Bhutan, on April 27 (Tue). An overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. Parliamentary Vice-Minister Nishimura began by conveying her gratitude for Bhutan’s heartfelt hospitality. King Wangchuck said that Japan is a vital and trustworthy partner for development, and expressed his appreciation for Japan’s ODA. He stated that he would like to strengthen the bilateral relationship in the future, that he would like to visit Japan given that the next year marks twenty-five years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and that Bhutan can learn from Japan’s experience.

  2. In response, Minister Nishimura said that she would like to make an effort towards receiving King Wangchuck’s visit to Japan. She said that Bhutan has proposed the unique idea of “Gross National Happiness,” and that Japan also has much to learn from Bhutan. The conversation ended on a harmonious note with Minister Nishimura stating that she would like to deepen mutual understanding through people to people exchange.
