Statement by Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Situation in the Kyrgyz Republic

- On April 15 (Thurs), an agreement was reached between the “interim government” of the Kyrgyz Republic and President Bakiev, regarding the departure the latter from the country with the mediation of the Organization for Security and Cooperation (OSCE) and others. The Government of Japan expects that this agreement will facilitate the advancement of the normalization of the situation in the Kyrgyz Republic and expresses its respect for the efforts by concerned countries including the United States of America, Russia, and Kazakhstan, as well as concerned international organizations such as OSCE.
- The Government of Japan has been supporting the nation-building efforts of the Kyrgyz Republic toward democratization and market economy. Japan expects that the efforts toward the recovery of democracy and constitutional order will continue to proceed by legitimate and peaceful process and by ensuring transparency.
