Earthquake and Tsunami Disaster in the Samoa Islands Region (Message of Sympathy from Mr. Yukio Hatoyama, Prime Minister of Japan)

On September 30 (Wed) at 2:48 AM (JST), the Samoa Islands Region was hit by an earthquake measuring 8.3 on the Richter scale, and also suffered from damage caused by a tsunami. In response to this disaster, The Honorable Yukio Hatoyama, Prime Minister of Japan, sent a message to The Honorable Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, Prime Minister of the Independent State of Samoa, as well as to Mr. Barack Obama, President of the United States, in which he expressed his heartfelt sympathy and condolences to those who lost family members or friends as a result of this disaster as well as to the Governments and citizens of the region.
