Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on a Series of Bombs in Jakarta, Indonesia

- It is abominable that many people were killed and injured by a series
of bombs on the morning (local time) of July 17 (Fri) in the Mega Kuningan
district of central Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia. The Government
of Japan expresses sympathy for those killed by bombs and sends condolences
to the bereaved families. We also express sympathy for the many injured
and pray for their early recovery.
- Terrorism cannot be justified for any reason, and Japan reiterates its
firm condemnation of these atrocious acts of terrorism that target many
innocent people.
- The Government of Japan will continue its utmost efforts for the eradication of terrorism in cooperation with the international community. Japan will also cooperate and collaborate with the Government of Indonesia, and provide cooperation and support for anti-terrorism efforts.
