May 7, 2009
Japanese
- Regarding the outbreak of the new strain of influenza in Mexico, the
Government of Japan decided on May 1 to provide emergency assistance up
to 100 million yen in response to a request for emergency relief goods from
the Government of Mexico. Japan has already provided emergency relief goods,
including masks and goggles, worth approximately 21 million yen.
- In addition, Japan is providing 25 NEC Avio brand infrared thermographies
to help strengthen medical inspection in airports and other locations in
Mexico through Grant Aid worth 76.5 million yen. These thermographies will
be transported from Narita Airport on the evening of May 7.
- Japan will continue working closely with both Mexico and the rest of the international community to overcome the influence of the new strain of influenza, which is a threat to all mankind. Japan hopes that Mexico can make good use of the provided thermographies to further enhance measures to strengthen medical inspection and quarantine.
