- On November 10 (Tue), the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency
relief goods (water tanks, water purifiers, portable jerry cans, tents, plastic
sheets, sleeping pads, blankets), equivalent to approximately 20 million
JPY, to the Republic of El Salvador, which has suffered from the damages
caused by the recent torrential rains.
- In El Salvador, the torrential rains from November 6 caused landslides
and avalanches of earth and rocks centered in the Departments of San Salvador
and San Vicente. According to the report of the Government of El Salvador
as of November 9 (local time), the disaster has left 140 dead, 13,773 evacuated,
and 209 houses damaged or destroyed. The situation in the affected areas
is serious at present. The transportation systems are cut off at various
places by such conditions as floods and landslides, and a large number of
citizens have been forced to live in shelters. While making utmost efforts
to assist the affected people, the Government of El Salvador has requested
emergency assistance to the Government of Japan.
- The Government of Japan from a humanitarian viewpoint, has decided to extend this emergency assistance, as well as in light of the friendly relationship between Japan and El Salvador.
