- On November 2nd, the Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan
declared Hamid Karzai as elected president of Afghanistan, since he became
the only candidate for the second round of the Afghan Presidential Election,
which was scheduled on November 7th.
- Japan welcomes the election of the new president in Afghanistan through
election process managed by the Afghans themselves with the support of the
international community.
- Japan expects that the new Afghan president will unite the Afghan people and address strenuously various challenges of nation-building. Japan will continue its proactive support for the efforts of the Government and the people of Afghanistan for its stability and reconstruction together with international society.
