- I welcome, on behalf of the Government of Japan, the election of Ms.
Irina Bokova, permanent delegate of the Republic of Bulgaria to UNESCO to
the post of the next Director-General of UNESCO in the 35th session of UNESCO
General Conference.
- Current Director-General Mr. Koichiro Matsuura is highly appreciated by the international community for his efforts of UNESCO reform initiatives. The Government of Japan expects that Ms. Bokova, as the new Director-General, succeed the reform initiatives of Mr. Matsuura and further promote them under her prominent leadership.
