Kidnapping of Japanese Women in Yemen (Safely Released Victims Met with Japanese Embassy Officials)

  1. The Japanese embassy in Yemen confirmed the safe release of the recently kidnapped two Japanese women at 00:36 on May 8 (local time) (Japan time: 06:36 on the same day) after a telephone conversation.  At about 07:15 on May 8 (Japan time: 13:15 on the same day), embassy officials met with the kidnapping victims at a Marib hotel to confirm their identity.
     
  2. According to embassy officials, the two Japanese women are both in good condition  and unharmed, with their possessions intact.
     
  3. The two women left Marib on May 8 at 8:30 (Japan time: 14:30 on the same day), accompanied by embassy officials and security guards for the capital city San’a.
