Statement by Mr. Taro Aso, the Minister for Foreign Affairs on the Terrorism against Mr. Mohammed Ali al-Hassani, Governor of Al-Muthanna Province, Iraq
August 20, 2007
- Japan greatly feels shocked and indignant over the murder of Mr. Mohammed
Ali al-Hassani, Governor of Al-Muthanna Province in Iraq by an act of terrorism
on August 20. Terrorism cannot be justified for any reason and Japan
reiterates its firm condemnation of the act of terrorism.
- Govoner al-Hassani not only made great efforts in promoting the reconstruction
of Al-Muthanna Province but tried very hard to facilitate Japan’s assistance
provided for the Province through the Ground Self-Defense Force and ODA,
and thus greatly contributed to the development of bilateral relations.
- Japan would like to mourn the loss of Governor al-Hassani and expects that Al-Muthanna Province and its people will overcome this tragedy and continue to make efforts for reconstruction.
