Invitation of CTBT-related Officials from Indonesia

July 18, 2007

1.    As part of Japan’s efforts to promote the early entry into force of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will invite CTBT-related officials of the Indonesian Government from July 24 (Tue) to 27 (Fri).

2.    The Indonesian officials will visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Japan Meteorological Agency to exchange views with CTBT-related Japanese government officials.  They will also visit CTBT verification facilities including Matsushiro Seismological Monitoring Station and a national data center.  Indonesia, one of the Annex 2 states, whose ratification is a prerequisite for the entry into force of the treaty, signed the CTBT in 1996 but has not yet ratified it.

3.    It is hoped that the present visit will further strengthen cooperative relations between Japan and Indonesia in the fields of disarmament and nonproliferation, leading to Indonesia’s early ratification of the CTBT.
