Telephone Conversation between the Foreign Ministers of Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK)

- On June 21 (Thu) for about 30 minutes from 4:00 p.m., Mr. Taro Aso, Minister for Foreign Affairs, had a conversation over the telephone with Mr. Song Min-soon, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Korea (ROK), at the latter’s request.
- The two Foreign Ministers valued the recent moves regarding the Six-Party Talks, including the planned visit of IAEA team to North Korea next week.
- They also agreed that it would be necessary to speed up the process of the Six-Party Talks and that they would continue close coordination between Japan, the ROK and the US, taking into account the result of the visit to North Korea by Ambassador Christopher Hill, Assistant Secretary of the US Department of State.
- The two Foreign Ministers also agreed on the importance of making progress in Japan-North Korea relations including the abduction issue. Mr. Song stated that the ROK hoped that there would be progress in all fields of the Six-Party Talks, including Japan-North Korea relations, and that the ROK had been raising Japan-North Korea issues including the abduction issue at the talks between the ROK and North Korea.
