Telephone Conversation between Mr. Taro Aso, Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Hoshyar Zebari, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq

For about five minutes from 21:35 on April 18, Mr. Taro Aso, Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs, had a telephone conversation with Mr. Hoshyar Zebari, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq.  The gist of the conversation is as follows.

  1. Mr. Aso said, “I am delighted that dialogue between Japan and Iraq has been very active as Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, Vice President Tariq Al-Hashimi, and other leaders of Iraq recently visited Japan one after another.”
  2. Mr. Zebari requested the attendance of Mr. Aso at the ministerial meeting on May 3 concerning the Iraq Compact and the expanded foreign ministerial meeting of the neighboring countries on May 4 concerning the stabilization of Iraq.
  3. In response, Mr. Aso stated, “I am well aware of the importance of these meetings.Japan will consider proactive participation.”
