Telephone Conversation between Mr. Taro Aso, Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Hoshyar Zebari, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq

For about five minutes from 21:35 on April 18, Mr. Taro Aso, Japanese
Minister for Foreign Affairs, had a telephone conversation with Mr. Hoshyar
Zebari, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq. The gist
of the conversation is as follows.
- Mr. Aso said, “I am delighted that dialogue between Japan and Iraq has been very active as Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, Vice President Tariq Al-Hashimi, and other leaders of Iraq recently visited Japan one after another.”
- Mr. Zebari requested the attendance of Mr. Aso at the ministerial meeting on May 3 concerning the Iraq Compact and the expanded foreign ministerial meeting of the neighboring countries on May 4 concerning the stabilization of Iraq.
- In response, Mr. Aso stated, “I am well aware of the importance of these meetings.Japan will consider proactive participation.”
