The Second Round of Negotiations on the Convention for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income with the United Arab Emirates

1.    The Second Round of Negotiations on the Convention for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with Respect to Taxes on Income with the United Arab Emirates took place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, from March 20 (Tue) to 22 (Thu).  The negotiations were attended by Mr. Hideki Ito, Deputy Director-General of the Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Head of the Japanese Delegation), Mr. Nobuyuki Nakamura, International Tax Counsel, Ministry of Finance and other relevant officials of Japan; and Mr. Al-Khoori, Under Secretary, Ministry of Finance and Industry of the United Arab Emirates, Mr. Al-Bustani, Assistant Under Secretary for Revenue and Budget, Ministry of Finance and Industry, Dr. Nasr, Head of International Economic Relations and International Tax Treaties Section, Invest Department, Ministry of Finance and Industry and other relevant officials of the United Arab Emirates.

2.    In a friendly and constructive atmosphere, the two parties had a discussion on the main provisions of the convention while recognizing the significance of this convention in enhancing the economic relations between the two countries.

3.    The two parties decided to hold the next round of negotiations in Tokyo in a timely manner.  The exact schedule will be decided by both parties in due course.
