Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the establishment of the United Nations political mission in Nepal (UNMIN)

The Government of Japan welcomes the unanimous adoption of a UN Security Council resolution 1740 to establish the United Nations political mission in Nepal (UNMIN) on January 23, 2007 in New York time.
The Government of Japan also hopes that the mission will support effectively the management of arms and the conduct of the election of a Constituent Assembly.
Japan will continue to support the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
