Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Presidential Election in the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe

1. The Government of Japan extends congratulations to the reelected President, His Excellency Mr. Fradique De Menezes, as well as to the people of the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe on the successful holding of the presidential election on July 30 (Sun) which was carried out in a peaceful manner.
2. Japan hopes that under the leadership of President De MENEZES, the country's democracy will be further strengthened and that the fair society and economy will continue to be developed.
