Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the First Meeting of the Iraqi National Assembly

  1. On March 16 (Thu), the first meeting of the Iraqi National Assembly was held. Japan welcomes this meeting as a positive step toward the establishment of a new government.
  2. Japan strongly hopes that Iraq will overcome difficulties as well as the Iraqi people respect each other regardless of their ethnic group or religious organization and promptly establish a stable government based on national reconciliation. Japan would like such positive steps to accelerate hereafter.
  3. Japan will continue to actively support the efforts of the Government of Iraq and its people.
