Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, on Recent Political Situation in Bangladesh

1. The Government of Japan welcomes recent political development in Bangladesh where all major political parties expressed their willingness to participate in the upcoming general election, after the political antagonism have been overcome by the effort of the people concerned, as an important step for strengthening and stabilizing democracy in Bangladesh.
2. The Government of Japan strongly hopes that the upcoming general election will be carried out in a free and fair manner with the participation of all the political parties.
