Statement by the Minister for Foreign Affairs on the National Assembly Election of Iraq

  1. On December 15 (Thu), the National Assembly election was conducted without major disruption. Japan welcomes this as very important development in Iraq's political process, and congratulates the Iraqi Transitional Government and people of Iraq.
  2. Japan hopes that the new government will be formed promptly in harmonious coordination among religious and ethnic groups.
  3. Japan will continue providing active support on the Iraqi people's nation-building efforts, along with the international community.
