Statement of the Press Secretary of the Government of Japan, on the Peace Process in Sri Lanka
December 12, 2005
- The Government of Japan expresses grave concern over the recent escalation of violence in the North and East of Sri Lanka, including the series of claymore attacks on the Sri Lankan Army vehicles in Jaffna District on December 4 and 6.
- Such escalation of violence runs counter against Sri Lankan people's expectation that the peace process should be reinvigorated after the Presidential election.
- The Government of Japan calls for strict observance of the Ceasefire Agreement to prevent further deterioration of the situation on the ground.
