Emergency Assistance for the Disaster in Thailand Caused by the Major Earthquake off the Coast of Sumatra and Tsunami in the Indian Ocean

  1. The Government of Japan, in light of the massive damage in the coastal areas along the Andaman Sea in the Kingdom of Thailand, caused by multiple tsunamis in the Indian Ocean, has decided to dispatch to the Kingdom of Thailand another Japan Disaster Relief Expert Team consisting of three experts to identify the disaster victims. The team left Japan on January 9 to work in the affected areas in cooperation with local organizations concerned.

  2. A Japan Disaster Relief Expert Team was dispatched on January 4 for extraction and examination of DNA specimens to identify the disaster victims and is already working in Krabi and elsewhere.
