Statement by Ms. Yoriko Kawaguchi, Minister for Foreign Affairs, on a series of Terror Attack in Be'er Sheva in Israel

Ms. Yoriko Kawaguchi, Minister for Foreign Affairs, made the following statement on a series of terror attack occurred in the southern city of Israel, Be'er Sheva, in the afternoon of August 31 (Tue) (local time).

  1. Japan is gravely shocked by a series of terror attack which occurred in two local buses in Be'er Sheva in the afternoon of August 31 (Tue) (local time) and suffered a large number of casualties. Japan expresses sympathy to the victims, condolences to the bereaved families and heartfelt sympathy to those who are injured. Terrorism cannot be justified for any reason, and Japan firmly condemns atrocious terrorism that victimizes many innocent people.

  2. Japan is deeply concerned that continued acts of violence will deteriorate situation. Japan strongly expects the Palestinian Authority to make utmost efforts to control extremists. Japan also strongly hopes that the parties concerned on both the Israeli and the Palestinian sides will resume efforts as soon as possible to implement the Roadmap through dialogue and cooperation.
