Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Bombings in Bangladesh

- The Government of Japan expresses its strong indignation at the bombing incident which took place in front of the Awami League headquarters during the party's political rally on Saturday, August 21st, claiming many lives and injuring numerous citizens. The Government of Japan extends its condolences to the bereaved families as well as its heartfelt sympathy for those who were killed and injured in this incident of terrorism.
- The Government of Japan firmly condemns any acts of terrorism and is determined to continue working with the international community for the elimination of terrorism.
- The Government of Japan hopes that the people of Bangladesh will converge to overcome their difficulties and take firm and bold steps towards strengthening their democracy. Japan also expresses its intention to continue supporting the efforts of Bangladesh towards further promoting democracy in their country.
