Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the Ballistic Missile Testing by Pakistan

June 4, 2004

  1. The Government of Japan reiterates its deep regret that Pakistan further conducted a ballistic missile test on June 4, following that of May 29, despite the continued efforts by the international community to promote the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missiles.

  2. The Japanese government further calls on Pakistan to respond sincerely to the efforts by the international community to promote the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missiles. The Japanese government hopes that these tests will not affect peace and stability in the South Asia region.
