Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Escalation of Violence in the Gaza Strip

- The Government of Japan is greatly concerned about the recent clashes between the Israelis and the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, which have caused many casualties.
- The Government of Japan is deeply worried that these clashes would trigger further cycle of violence, making it more difficult to bring about peace between the two parties.
- To prevent further deterioration of the situation, the Government of Japan strongly urges the Israeli side to exercise maximum self-restraint and the Palestinian side to make the utmost efforts to control extremists and to demonstrate their tangible results. The Government of Japan also urges both sides to promptly resume their efforts to implement the Roadmap.
