Statement by Ms. Yoriko Kawaguchi, Minister for Foreign Affairs, on the Summit Meetings between India and Pakistan

- The Government of Japan welcomes the meeting between Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee of India and President Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan on January 5th, following the meeting between Prime Minister Vajpayee and Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali of Pakistan on January 4th, as significant developments to improve their bilateral relations and the stability in the region.
- The Government of Japan highly regards the series of measures taken by both countries to improve their relations since last year. It also hopes that the two countries will sustain talks so as to further enhance their relations.
