The UN First Biennial Meeting of States to Consider the Implementation of the Programme of Action on Small Arms

  1. The UN First Biennial Meeting of States on Small Arms will be held from July 7 to 11 at the UN Headquarters in New York. The UN member states, international and regional organizations will participate in the meeting to discuss the implementation of the "Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects", which was adopted in 2001.

  2. Ambassador Kuniko Inoguchi of the Permanent Representative of Japan to the Conference on Disarmament will chair this meeting, which indicates positive recognition by the international community for Japan's efforts so far in the field of small arms and Japan's will to make serious efforts in this field.

  3. At the meeting, a chairperson's summary will be delivered, and the commitment of the international community to prevent the illicit trade in small arms will be pledged.
