Statement by Ms. Yoriko Kawaguchi, Minister for Foreign Affairs, on the worsening Palestinian situation
June 11, 2003
- The Government of Japan is deeply concerned that violence still continues, even though the Prime Ministers of the Israeli government and the Palestinian Authority expressed their commitment to bringing peace in the Middle East based on the "two-state vision" in the US-Israeli-Palestinian Three-Way Summit Meeting in Aqaba on June 4th, which made an important step for bringing peace in the Middle East.
- It is indispensable to actually implement the commitment expressed in the Aqaba Summit, and the Israeli and the Palestinian sides must cease the hostilities and end the vicious circle of violence.
- The Government of Japan strongly hopes that both Israeli and Palestinian sides should exercise maximum self-restraints and exhaust every possible effort to end the violence.
