Statement by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ms. Yoriko Kawaguchi, on the Bomb Attack on a Bus carrying Peacekeepers of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF)

- I am outraged by the bomb attack on a bus carrying peacekeepers of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) that took place at around 8 a.m. on June 7 local time (Japan time: about 12:30 p.m. on the same day) in eastern Kabul, Afghanistan, resulting in deaths and injuries. Japan firmly condemns terrorist attacks, and intends to cooperate with the international community to stamp out terrorism.
- As Japan highly appreciates the ISAF's role in maintaining security in and around Kabul, I extend my sincere sympathy for those killed in this attack and condolences to the bereaved families. I also pray for the quick recovery of the injured.
- The Government of Japan will extend assistance centering on peace, security, and humanitarian and reconstruction assistance for the Consolidation of Peace in Afghanistan.
