- The Government of Japan welcomes the news that on May 29 (Thu), the "Negotiation and Dialogue Table" members of the Government of Venezuela and the opposing side signed an agreement, under the mediation of Mr. Cesar Gaviria, Secretary General of the Organization of American States(OAS), which is expected to contribute to a peaceful, democratic, constitutional and electoral solution of the present political crisis in Venezuela.
- Japan has actively contributed for the stability and democratization of Latin American countries. From such a standpoint, we have been expressing our hope that the political crisis shall be solved peacefully at an earliest possible occasion, respecting its constitution, democracy and human rights in Venezuela, one of the most important countries in the Latin American region, which has maintained a firm tradition of democracy.
- Japan pays tribute to the efforts to reach an accord made so far by both the government and the opposing side members of the "Negotiation and Dialogue Table" and to the important role played by the OAS Secretary General Mr.Gaviria. At the same time, Japan strongly hopes that the Chavez administration and the opposition will carry out the agreement promptly and steadily on the basis of the democracy and spirit of national reconciliation, which are proud tradition of Venezuela.
