Statement by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ms. Yoriko Kawaguchi, on the Relations between India and Pakistan

  1. The Government of Japan welcomes that, in response to Indian government's decision on May 2, Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Mir Zaffarullah Khan Jamali made decisions on May 6, including exchange of ambassadors with India, restoration of air, bus and train links with the country, and pursuit of convening the 12th SAARC summit in Islamabad before the end of this year.

  2. The Government of Japan hopes that the positive moves by India and Pakistan will contribute to further improvement of the relations between the two countries.
