Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Recent Violence in Israel and the Palestinian Territories

December 26, 2003

  1. Japan has grave concern that a series of latest violent actions including the Israel's military attacks in the Palestinian Territories and the suicide bombing by a Palestinian in Israel, both of which resulted in civilian casualties, will make the resumption of the implementation of the "Roadmap" difficult, at a time when both sides are making efforts to resume the implementation of the "Roadmap" after the establishment of Prime Minister Qurie's cabinet. Japan extends its condolences to the bereaved families and heartfelt sympathy for the civilian casualties.

  2. Japan strongly hopes that both Israelis and Palestinians will do their utmost not to enter into the cycle of violence once again and will work for resuming the implementation of the "Roadmap".
