Grassroots Human Security Grant Aid to Iraq

  1. On November 26 (Wed), the Government of Japan decided to extend grassroots human security grant aid of 205,544,502 yen in total intended for the northern region of Iraq. The aid covers the following projects.
    (1) The Project for Reconstruction of Mustakbal Secondary School in Mosul City: 45,768,910 yen
    Purpose: to reconstruct Mustakbal Secondary School in Mosul City
    (2) The Project for Construction of Wastewater Treatment Plants in Mosul City: 56,120,000 yen
    Purpose: to construct four wastewater treatment plants in Mosul City
    (3) The Project for Rehabilitation of Water Treatment Plants in Nineveh Governorate: 28,015,592 yen
    Purpose: to rehabilitate two water treatment plants in Niveveh Governorate
    (4) The Project for Improvement of Medical Transportation in Nineveh Governorate: 75,640,000 yen
    Purpose: to provide the Health Service Bureau of Nineveh Governorate with ten emergency vehicles


  2. This autumn, the Government of Japan has already provided grassroots human security grant aid totaling 39,061,594 yen intended for Baghdad. Concerning this aid, Mr. Ali Radhi Al-Haydary, Vise Chairman of the Baghdad City Advisory Council, and staff members of the council visited the Japanese Embassy in Iraq on November 11 (Tue) to hand over a letter of appreciation and to express their gratitude.
    (1) The Project for the Equipment Supply for Rashid RF Community Council: 8,867,082 yen
    Purpose: to provide desks, chairs, business and other equipment for the council
    Donation contract: concluded on August 31
    (2) The Project for Improvement of Schools in the Rashid District: 25,093,692 yen
    Purpose: to construct eight primary schools and one engineering school
    Donation contract: concluded on September 30
    (3) The Project for Improving Hibatoallah Institute for Down Syndrome: 5,100,820 yen
    Purpose: to present equipment, mainly for homemaking classes such as pressing irons and other items, necessary for the education of physically and mentally handicapped children
    Donation contract: concluded on September 26
