Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Israeli incursion into Gaza
January 28, 2003
- The Government of Japan expresses its deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved families of many Palestinian civilians, who were killed and injured by the Israeli incursion into Gaza city from January 25 to the early morning of January 26, and condemns the Israeli incursion.
- This incursion occurred despite of the fact that, in Egypt, several Palestinian factions are conducting discussions aiming at ceasefire, and other international efforts for peace are being undertaken. This attack does not serve for the improvement of the situation.
- The Government of Japan requests that the Government of Israel should exercise maximum restraints.
