Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Israeli Measures to Restrict Palestinians' Movement and Other Measures

January 9, 2003

  1. The Government of Israel has decided to restrict the movement of the Palestinians, including the executive members of the PLO (Palestinian Liberation Organization). Whereas the Government of Japan resolutely condemned the suicide attacks by the Palestinians on January 5th, it is concerned that these measures would inhibit the progress of Palestinian reforms and that the restrictions on the movements of Palestinians might exacerbate humanitarian situations of the Palestinians.

  2. The Government of Japan requests that the Government of Israel should lift these measures soon.
