- Japan welcomes the fact that Mr. Hamid Karzai, Chairman of the Afghanistan Interim Administration, was elected on June 13 (Japan Time 14) to the Head of the State for the Transitional Administration through democratic procedures at the Emergency Loya Jirga, which is now being held in Kabul.
- The success of the Emergency Loya Jirga and the establishment of the Transitional Administration in accordance with the Bonn Agreement are extremely important for promoting the peace process. Japan intends to continue its future cooperation for the political process, domestic security, humanitarian assistance and reconstruction in order to consolidate peace in Afghanistan.
