Statement by the Press Secretary / Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the conflicts between the Israelis and the Palestinians, and an initiative proposed by Prince Abdullah of Saudi Arabia
March 1, 2002
- The government of Japan is deeply concerned with the recent continued intensification of vicious circle of violence, including the suicide bombing by a Palestinian on 27th of February, an air raid by the Israeli Defense Force against a refugee camp on the same day, and the shootings between IDF and the Palestinians on 28th of February, which has resulted in numerous death tolls on both sides and rising tensions between the two sides.
- In this deplorable situation, Japan welcomes that Crown Prince Abdullah of Saudi Arabia has recently proposed an important initiative. This is an indication of strong desire for resolving the conflict in the Middle East. Japan strongly hopes that this initiative will provide a new important step to advance the Middle East Peace Process.
