- I sincerely congratulate Mr. Roh Moo Hyun on his election as the President-to-be of the Republic of Korea.
- Since the R.O.K. shares basic values with Japan and is an extremely important neighbor in terms of politics and economy, I intend to keep close cooperation with the next administration of that country so that friendly and cooperative relations between Japan and the R.O.K. will be further developed and peace, stability and prosperity will be brought to Northeast Asia.
- I expect that the R.O.K. and its people will achieve further development and prosperity under the leadership of the new President.
