Assistance for Education and Health in Ky Son District, Nghe An Province, Vietnam

  1. On December 2 (Mon), the Government of Japan and the United Nations (UN) decided to extend the total of 308,227.50-dollar assistance through the Trust Fund for Human Security to the project "Supporting Education, Health and Sanitation Needs among the Local Population in Ky Son District, Vietnam, to Prevent Re-cultivation of Opium Poppy" to be implemented by the United Nations International Drug Control Programme (UNDCP).

  2. The goal of this project is to improve the overall living conditions of ethnic minorities in Ky Son District where opium has been largely produced and the living standard is low. The activities include improving educational facilities and health facilities and their services and providing water supply schemes. Villagers will be involved in all stages from planning to construction and operation and maintenance, thus the ownership of the villagers is ensured.

  3. This project is expected to improve the living standard of the population in Ky Son District and to contribute to reducing opium dependence and drug abuse.
