August 3, 2001

  1. Yesterday on August 2, the Government of the Republic of Korea announced its view that in spite of the issue of Japanese history textbooks, human exchanges between Japan and ROK should continue to be expanded. Japan welcomes this view since it is in line with that of Japan, which considers that calm and sincere endeavor is necessary especially at this time in order to avoid damaging the overall relationship between Japan and the ROK.

  2. In spite of various difficult issues that lie between the two countries, Japan intends to make efforts, based on mutual understanding and trust, to promote friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries.
