Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Indo-Pakistan Relations

The Government of Japan welcomes the invitation of General Pervez Musharraf, Chief Executive of Pakistan, by Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to visit India and the acceptance of this invitation by Gen. Musharraf.
The Government of Japan looks forward to the strengthening of efforts by the Governments of India and Pakistan to resolve outstanding issues between them through dialogue, in accordance with the spirit of Lahore, and hopes that their efforts will lead to easing tensions between India and Pakistan as well as in southwest Asia as a whole, and creating a more favorable environment for regional stability.
