The First Japan-ROK High-level Economic Consultations

- The first Japan-Republic of Korea High-level Economic Consultations will be held on March 6 (Sat.) and 7 (Sun.) in Seoul. These consultations will be held in accordance with the "Japan-Republic of Korea Joint Declaration - A New Japan-Republic of Korea Partnership towards the Twenty-first Century" and its annex "the Action Program", which were announced in October last year when President Kim Dae Jung visited Japan.
- The consultations will be attended on the Japanese side by Mr. Koichi Haraguchi, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, as chief representative, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Economic Planning Agency, the Ministry of International Trade and Industry and others, and on the ROK side by Mr. Chung Euy Yong, Deputy Minister of State for Trade, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and others.
- At the consultations, there will be a wide-ranging exchange of views on cooperation in both bilateral and international economic issues, with a view to establishing a new Japan-ROK partnership towards the 21st century.
On the basis of the 1993 summit talks, Japan and the ROK have held meetings of the New Initiative for Economic Partnership four times for consultations on cooperation in bilateral and international economic issues. The forthcoming consultations, on the basis of the Joint Declaration and the Action Program, will be held as a comprehensive and high-level economic forum, taking account of the new economic environment surrounding the two countries.
